I have been trying to think of some Summer BBQ Party Ideas to share with you, but I’m not much of a cook so I didn’t have any great food recipes to share.
This got me to thinking about all those times when your friends and neighbors are telling you they have the best recipe for baked beans, salads, and other BBQ favorites. Then everyone starts competing about who has the best recipe for desserts.
I have a few tasty treat recipes so I generally pipe in around this part of the conversation. During the summer months homemade ice cream always comes up and the competition about who has the best recipe is always part of the conversation.
I thought it might be fun to have a small party for all of those neighbors with “the best” ice cream recipe, and give them the chance to prove it.

Here’s where this fun ice cream contest comes in. Everyone makes their best homemade ice cream and brings it to share.
Every body samples each homemade ice cream and votes for their favorite one.

You can also provide a variety of sprinkles and other toppings for everyone to use… after their taste test and judging of course. We don’t want to ruin the competition. Haha!
I made these sprinkle straws to sip up the melting ice cream during the hot summer months. They were a piece of cake to make and would be a great way for your kids to help prepare.
How to Make Sprinkle Straws
Supplies Needed:
Dip the end of a plastic straw in Karo syrup, let all the excess drip off. Then dip them in sprinkles and set them aside to dry.
They are both adorable and useful. My favorite straws are the wide straws!
They always come in cute colors, are super cheap, and are wider than the average straw.
Perfect for slurping up smoothies and milkshakes.
Have you ever had an ice cream contest with your friends? I’m thinking I need to start having more of these themed bake-offs with friends. They are low-key, and simple parties to throw that everyone will enjoy.
It’s a party based completely around sampling food and enjoying a summer night together chatting. Who wouldn’t love that? Do you have any Summer BBQ Party Ideas you would love to share?
Maybe an easy tradition that will inspire the rest of us to start too.
Pin it for later!
