Hi friends, Elise here from Polka Dotted Blue Jay and I can’t wait to share how to make this 4th of July tassel banner with you today.
I love using tassel banners for my party setups and it is so much fun to have different colors on hand for parties and holidays. When I can’t find the color combination I want, I grab some tissue paper and my scissors and get to crafting.
I like to keep my 4th of July decorations simple and fun since we usually spend the day at my parent’s house enjoying bar-be-que and swimming in the pool with my nephews and niece. The 4th of July has always been my favorite holiday (yes, even way back in first grade). The summertime food, the sunshine, and the fireworks are something I look forward to every year. These tassel banners are perfect to hang from the patio cover, layer with another 4th of July banner, or add to the front of a bar cart with water and snacks for everyone to enjoy.
Supplies:
Red, white and blue tissue paper (one sheet makes four small tassels)
Ribbon or twine
Glitter Stars (I used glitter cardstock and cut them out with my Silhouette Cameo, but you could use star stickers if you would like)
Adhesive
How to make your tassel banner:
Take your tissue paper and fold in half lengthwise, then in half, then lengthwise again.
Fringe the tissue paper by cutting long strips ¾ of the way on the unfolded side.
Unfold the tissue paper so the uncut portion is in the middle and cut 4 sections lengthwise. These will make 4 separate tassels.
Roll the tassel lengthwise and then twist the paper and make a loop to attach your banner to the ribbon. I twist the loop around my finger and pinch it to close the loop.
Repeat with all three colors.
Thread the tassels onto the ribbon or twine in the color pattern you would like.
Add your glitter stars in between the tassels. Put some adhesive on the back of two glitter stars and sandwich them together with the ribbon in the middle.
The glitter stars look pretty and help keep your tassels from sliding all together to the middle when you hang up the banner.
I love how easy these 4th of July tassels are to make and how they instantly bring some patriotism to my decorations for inside and outside of the house. Leave a comment and let us know where you would hang this red, white, and blue tassel banner.
Pin it for later!

That’s a very pretty banner, and so easy to make! I love how the red white and blue tassels hang…I bet it would look even better with a little bit longer tassels, and a slight breeze. Thank you so much for sharing!
