DIY Summer Decorating Ideas by Destro Photography on Love the Day

Hi friends! It’s Laura from Destro Photography here and I am super excited to be contributing for Love The Day today! Summer is a great time to add some colorful DIY pieces in your home. I absolutely love decorating for the sunshine season and today I will be sharing a few fun and budget friendly DIY Summer Decorating Ideas to add a little summer into your home.

I am slightly obsessed with wreaths and love the opportunity to try a new craft while adding to my collection (you can see my collection and storage solution here). Today I will be showing you how to make this cute DIY Summer Clothespin Wreath – it is a quick and easy project and it only required a few inexpensive supplies. Let’s begin, shall we?

What you will need:

Wire Wreath Frame (I used a 14.25”)
Wooden Clothespins (I used exactly 83)
Spray Paint of Various Colors (I used orange, coral and two shades of yellow)
String for hanging the wreath
Optional embellishments

I had picked up a wire wreath frame from the dollar store a while back and so glad that I did! I had initially planned for all my clothespins to be painted yellow to resemble a sun but when shopping for spray paint I decided to use various vibrant summer colors.

First you will want to paint your clothespins. Since it was such a beautiful day outside I chose to spray paint mine and enjoy the extra time playing with my son. You absolutely could paint by hand with craft paint, too! The paint colors I used were Rustoleum in Real Orange, Coral, Sun Yellow and Lemon Grass. Since I used four colors I divided the clothespins of 20 each for the bright colors and 23 of the Lemon Grass. I only painted one side of my pins because I did not see a need and I thought perhaps I could update the wreath for another season or holiday and paint the other sides at a later time.

Once your clothespins are dry, simply attach them to the wire wreath frame. You will want to turn the frame so that it arches toward you. The biggest ring should be on the side that will rest on the wall or door. I chose to clip on the smallest ring so that the clothespin extended to the exterior of the frame, and I continued until I reached the end. I alternated with two of each color. When you are done simply add a string to hang up your new masterpiece.

That’s it, I told you it was easy! I love how it came out and now I am super excited for summer!

A few other DIY Summer Decorating items included on my mantel are painted mason jars (same spray paint as the wreath), a hand painted striped pot with faux grass and a miniature flamingo, a ribbon garland and a painted sailboat adorned with a patterned paper sail.
