This post is sponsored by Michaels, but the work and opinions are all mine!
Back in 2011, I had JUST started blogging and was invited to attend the Martha Stewart Dreamers Into Doers blogger event. It was there that I met some of my BEST blogger friends and realized that I could be creative for a living. It was the biggest AH-HA moment ever and set me on a course I could have never anticipated.
So when I was approached by Michaels to share Martha Stewart’s new Celebrations Collection designed exclusively for Michaels, I felt like everything had come full circle in a way. I decided to style a Magical Unicorn Party with Martha’s Iridescent Collection because I’m obsessed with iridescent EVERYTHING and I just couldn’t walk away from using unicorns!
Before I talk about how I created this look, I wanted to chat about the Celebrations Collections. Now, I love me some good party products, but not all products are created equal right? You’ve got your dollar store supplies that are great for toddler playdates or casual get togethers with close friends. There are the products from party stores that are great for monochromatic color parties of really specific themed parties. And there are the supplies that are now sold online from brands/bloggers that are a bit more fun, colorful and creative that are perfect for those hosting parties all the time and like to mix it up. All are great and provide value for different events.
The Martha Stewart Celebrations Collections are unique and amazing for lots of reason, but I think they are perfect for moms who want to create a ‘Pinterest Party’, but don’t have the time to create it themselves. I REALLY love that these collections (there are ten themes available) look so DIY. If you are a mom that loves to DIY everything, but are super busy and don’t have the time to make fringe garlands, cupcake toppers, sew party favors, etc… this collection is for you. I felt like each piece of the party was something I would create from scratch, but didn’t have to because it’s now available in stores.
HOW TO CREATE A MAGICAL UNICORN PARTY
The first thing I did to create my Magical Unicorn Party was style a backdrop. It’s no secret that I have STRONG feelings about BACKDROPS. They are such an easy way to set the tone for a space, create texture and often-times create a fabulous focal point for your event. For this party, because I was working with iridescent, I wanted the backdrop to provide amazing shimmer and texture so that it would help the table stand out in front of it. I hung garlands of all shapes, sizes and texture in various directions to create that texture and hung mylar and confetti-filled balloons to bring dimension to the spread.
CREATE A FOCAL POINT
After the backdrop was set, I worked on the focal point! I decided to use the Geometric Cake Stand from the Iridescent Collection to sit in the middle of my table. Sweet Amanda from Sweet Bites provided the most DARLING cake and cupcake that looked stunning in front on my backdrop. I added candles, candy and sprinkles to the cake to fit with the theme and I had the perfect focal point!
KEEP THE TABLE SIMPLE
I think often-times we think that table needs to be JAM-PACKED to look amazing. Sometimes the focal point and a few coordinating pieces are more than enough. Especially if you have an elaborate backdrop like I do here. So next to the cake, I added the plates, cups (with adorable star straws) and assembled a few party favors and that was it! I kept it simple and clean so there weren’t too many places for one’s eyes to wonder.
