I still love looking on Pinterest for pretty wedding decorations and party favors. A lot of times the wedding ideas can be used for other parties as well and I love a versatile craft project.
Last month I went to a wedding where the wedding favors were glow sticks with cards that said: “Light the Way for the Bride and Groom”. When I started thinking about wedding favors and just how much they cost per guest, I had a great idea for cheap wedding favors that double as place cards for dinner: Custom Cork Coasters.
Taking simple cork drink coasters and adding vinyl guests names is an easy way to label seats for dinner. Then your guests can keep the coasters as a favor for using at home.
Cheap Wedding Favors: DIY Custom Cork Coasters
Measure your coaster to see the diameter; my coasters are 4 inches across. Create your names in your trimmer software (I used my Silhouette Cameo) to fit those dimensions. Use a font that you like; I used the Shorelines Script.
Cut your names out with vinyl that matches your wedding colors and weed out the excess – this means removing the centers of the loops on “O”, “A”, “L”, etc. Weeding is important so you don’t transfer that vinyl to your coaster as well.
Layer your transfer tape on top of your name and make sure it is firmly pressed down and smooth. Peel it back from the vinyl backing and lay flat on your coaster.
Pull off the transfer tape to leave the vinyl attached to the coaster. Go slowly! Since the coaster has texture, the vinyl clings to the transfer tape a little more than normal.
You could create coasters with your wedding monogram, the date, or anything you would like that fits your wedding theme.
These coasters are easy and make a cheap wedding favor since you can buy packs of them for less than a dollar a coaster.
