Hi friends! It’s Laura from Destro Photography here and I am super excited to be contributing again for Love The Day! I don’t know about you but I just can’t believe summer is just about over and school is right around the corner. Whether you are a teacher, a parent or a party stylist I think you will all agree: decorating for Back to School is always a fun way to start the new school year! This year I wanted something fun and motivational. Today I will be showing you how to make this super cute DIY Back to School Banner – it is a quick and easy project that you could do with your kids and it only required a few inexpensive supplies. Let’s begin, shall we?
What you will need:
- Yellow Doilies (enough for all your letters)
- Sticker Letters
- Wooden Glasses Embellishments
- Twine or String
- Mini Clothespins
- Scissors
- Black Paint
- Paint Brush
- Foam Adhesive Squares (or glue of your choice)
- Optional embellishments
I picked up all of my supplies at Michaels (and I may have squealed when I spotted the adorable wooden glasses). All of my supplies are shown, however you could certainly personalize with your own choice of colors and embellishments. To save a few dollars you could use your Cricut for the letters and glasses if you wish.
First you will want to paint your wooden glasses. I used these for the letter OO of my banner (cute, right?!?). I only painted one side, but did paint around the interior and edges. Allow the glasses to completely dry.
I also painted a few more to make an additional banner for my Back to School Mantel.
Next you will want to attach your sticker letters to your doilies. Since my mantel design had multiple words of encouragement I chose to only spell out SCHOOL. You could certainly make a complete BACK TO SCHOOL banner with just a few more doilies and stickers.
Once your black glasses are dry, simply attach them to the doily by using some glue. I used a couple foam adhesive squares to give it a bit of dimension, however you could also use your glue gun or some glue dots, too.
When you are done simply use some mini clothespins to attach to your twine and hang up your new Back to School Banner. That’s it, I told you it was easy!
I love how it came out and now I am super excited for Back to School!
Here is my cute Back to School Banner on this year’s Back to School Mantel. I included a banner made from the additional glasses painted earlier. So cute! I made the Be Amazing sign with some yellow striped wrapping paper and letters cut with my Cricut.
I wish all you wonderful teachers and parents a fabulous school year. Thanks so much for visiting! You can see more of my DIY decor and mantel styling ideas over on my blog.
Love this Back to School Banner? Pin it for later!

This is the cutest banner I’ve seen! Where did you find that school bus?!
Wow, it looks amazing. Going back to school, or college is always exciting. I love summer, but I’m always happy to be back on campus with my friends, and I like studying so I enjoy the process. But it can be hard from time to time, but it’s not a big problem nowadays. It’s great that now there are so many different useful tools and sites where you can get help with many things. For example, some time ago I was struggling with writing one paper and found this page https://edubirdie.com/examples/persuasive-essays/ which helped me out a lot. I found the exams there which were useful and informative. And I always try to look for something beneficial for education, and it all helps me to be a good student.
