It’s hard to believe, but it’s time for another Dream Tree Challenge! This is my third year participating in the Michaels Christmas Tree blogger event and I have to say, it’s my favorite thing I do ALL YEAR LONG. Nothing gets me more excited than seeing that tree on my front porch in October:). This year I went with a Plaid Christmas Tree, but I’ll get into that more in a bit. If you follow me on Instagram, you know that my family and I are in the process of moving to Dallas. It’s been a whirlwind of a move (we found out about the move just six weeks ago); having to pack, sell and purchase a home a LOT quicker than we expected.  This Christmas Tree Challenge came right in the middle of our move, leaving me without a home to set up my tree. My adorable sister, also in Dallas, graciously offered her home and I went to work! So before I share about the tree, I owe her and her husband a HUGE thank you. I know setting up a Christmas wonderland in her living room was not what she had planned for the beginning of November. Anyway…onto the tree! Keep reading for details on my Plaid Christmas Tree!
My 2016 tree, while very rustic like my BUFFALO CHECK CHRISTMAS TREE, has a more modern feel thanks to the flocked tree and gold accents. I was going for a upscale, cabin, plaid Christmas tree vibe. My favorite pieces in the tree are the darling, oversized cottages that are every so popular right now. Michaels has cottages in almost every color! I nestled five cottages in the tree in hopes that they would serve as the tree’s focal point.
I also added greenery, oversized pine cones and large wooden orbs to help serve as filler to the tree and help provide contrast against the flocked tree. And lastly, I wrapped the tree in red birch wood and plaid ribbon and topped the tree with those adorable skies!
To help set the scene, I placed a rustic latter behind the tree and placed a few throw blankets! My favorite is the one with tassels! I decorated the mantel with oversized gold letters and framed the word joy with gorgeous mercury glass candle sticks. To help the rustic feel I placed birch wood candles on the sticks.
And lastly, I hung the garland and stockings and placed the most adorable little rustic red wagon and filled it with a plaid pillow to finish the look!

I am desperate to mimic your ribbon placement, both solid red and the plaid. Can you offer any tips on how you made it look so perfectly Imperfect? Are they small pieces placed or longer lengths tucked and wired in? Thanks so much for any advice!
