Last year I created these DIY Valentine’s Day Decorations and have dreaming about different Red and Gold Valentine’s Day Ideas ever since. There is something about the combination of red and gold that screams Valentine’s Day! So when Michael’s asked me to create a party with their latest Valentine’s collection, I went straight for the red and gold party supplies and went to work!
Michaels has two adorable Valentine’s Day collections this year: a Rustic Valentine with traditional reds and hints of cream and a Modern Valentine collection that is soft, feminine with LOTS of pinks and gold. I took pieces of both collection to create this Modern Red & Gold table-scape.
Here’s how I created it:
BACKDROP
First and foremost I created a Valentine’s Day backdrop to serve as a vocal point. I glued fans from the Fan Decor Kit By Celebrate Itâ„¢ and a Metallic Paper Fan Kit (from the party section) to a large paper backdrop. I added large and small felt hearts, gold metallic discs and Doily Hearts to fill in blank sections and to add a more Valentine feel to the backdrop.
TABLE
I started decorating my table by first, placing a red and white heart table runner down the middle of the table. I actually used a piece of fabric I purchased in Mexico YEARS ago, so be creative! You don’t need an actual table runner to bring pattern to your table. You can use fabric, napkins, paper, etc!!
I next used four large felt sheets as placemats. These are the sheets you purchase in the craft section of Michaels. I love the texture they bring to the table.
I then layered a 10′ white and gold plate with a gold cake board disc and red heart plates (found in the holiday section). I placed a gold and white striped napkin (yay for more pattern) next tot he plates and added gold flatware.
I took glass milk bottles, wrapped them with gold ribbon and glued a red felt heart to the front of the bottled. I added a gold straw for a little flare and placed the bottles to the right of my plates.
To the left of the plates, I set a small white paper gift bag (spruced up with gold washi tape for extra pizazz) filled with Valentine’s Treats and gold metallic paper for texture.
I placed my favorite two-tiered gold cake stand in the center of the table for another focal point and added some of my favorite snickerdoodle cookies. To finish things off, I added large felt hearts to the backs of my white chairs and tied some gold metallic tissue poms to the heart to tie in the red and gold.
The party turned out great and is an excellent spread for GALentine’s Day parties, a romantic dinner in or a casual neighbor heart party.
