DIY Firework Cupcake Toppers

Diy firework cupcake toppers

Independence Day is probably one of my favorite holidays to celebrate. It’s all about being with close friends and family, and none of the added pressure that comes along with some of the major holidays like Christmas.

My family’s tradition for the 4th of July is to go swimming and barbecue at my parents’ house with all of my extended family. We have done this since I was little. As our family has grown and all my cousins have had kids that are grown and could be having kids of their own in a few years, this tradition has stuck around. Every year we are all so excited to get together and spend an entire day laughing and enjoying one another. It’s the absolute best!

The barbecue is pot lock and everyone brings their favorite dish to share. I love seeing the special touches that go into some of the desserts and salads to make them patriotic. My mom even made ribbon egg salad sandwiches with layers of red, white and blue bread. It doesn’t get much more patriotic than that.

I have the easiest tutorial for you today that will show you to how make patriotic firework cupcake toppers using some cardstock scraps you have lying around.

Supplies Needed:

  • cardstock
  • Tombola Mono Multi Liquid Glue (strong hold and dries quick)
  • pencil
  • scissors or craft cutting machine and firework .svg cut file

Directions: How to make a patriotic firework cupcake wrapper

1. Cut a 6.5×2.5″ rectangle out of cardstock. Cut the top edge off at an angle so that one side is taller than the other. Using your scissors cut all along the top stopping .5″ from the bottom creating fringe.  If you choose to use a craft machine like the Silhouette or Cricut, you can easily cut several fireworks out at various sizes in minutes.

2. Roll the top, cut edges around a pencil to give it a slight curl.

3. Starting at the short end, roll the fringed rectangle around a pencil, with the bent fringe edge curling out.

4. Take the cardstock off the pencil. Undo the curl from wrapping it around the pencil, and now wrap it by hand to create a tighter center.

5. Glue the end flap to the firework base. Hold for a few seconds until the glue sets.

6. Pull the fringed edges away from the center while pulling them downward and curling around your finger.

7. Spread the pieces around so that the firework looks full and doesn’t have any large, empty spaces.

8. Stick the firework in a cupcake or use for other patriotic decorations.

You can add the fireworks to drink stir sticks, straws, the ends of utensils, pencils and more. They would look great as a centerpiece with real fireworks like I’ve shown here. Learn how to make these adorable DIY Firework Cupcake Toppers by Amy Robison on Love the Day
