If you follow me on instagram, you know we’ve been slowly transforming our spec home room by room. The dining room has giving me ALL SORTS of anxiety ever since we moved in and I’m happy to report, it is finished! I now have a GORGEOUS Black Dining Room that I love.
When we moved to Dallas in 2016, it was one of those moves that was quick and unexpected. We needed to find a house and relocate fast. We luckily found the most adorable house in the best neighborhood.
HOW TO TRANSFORM A DINING ROOM WITH BLACK PAINT!
While the house had the space/location we were looking for, there of course were a few downsides to the home.
The home has a traditional Texas Dining Room that sits off to the left of the front entry. While I know LOTS of people love a formal dining space, I just don’t.
I feel like it’s a wasted room that just sits empty and I hated walking by it everyday with its bare walls. I decided if it was going to sit empty, it might as well be beautiful and went to work designing a black dining room I knew I would LOVE!
The room is pretty dark, so I knew I needed to lighten it up! I started with the light fixture. I got this fixture from Linea Lighting and am obsessed with it. It emits SO MUCH light. Plus I love its modern design.
Next we hired a friend to install wainscoting to the walls and frame out the window. I knew I wanted the majority of the room to be white and I love the texture and look that molding brings to a room.
The room was already looking so much more interesting after the molding was put in.
After the woodwork was finished, I went to work sanding, caulking and painting the room.
We decided to use PPG Paints for the project and I’m SO happy we did. I was so impressed with the quality of the paint. It’s so thick and bright. We used PPG Delicate White (PPG1001-1) and it turned out GORGEOUS and looked amazing on our trim.
Even better, the PPG Paints store was just down the street from our house (which was super handy as we got deeper into the project).
As part of a larger investment PPG has recently made in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, they have opened 14 new stores in the region! So if you’re in the Dallas area like us, make sure to check out a PPG store. You’ll be happy you did!
Here’s a little bit more about the line of paint we used:
‘PPG Paints MANOR HALL® Interior Paint, Primer & Stain Repellent in One is a super premium latex that was developed to resist household stains through the combination of resin and proprietary formulation. The 100% acrylic latex has outstanding adhesion and coverage and offers a burnish and mildew resistant coating, providing the durability for use in high humidity and high traffic areas. Outstanding hiding is aided by excellent flow and leveling which provides a rich, smooth film for a beautiful finish. PPG Paints Manor Hall is available at PPG Paints stores. PPG has nearly 40 PPG Paints stores in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. For more information on the PPG Paints brand or to find your closet store, visit www.ppgpaints.com.’
After the white was painted and dried I went to work painting the top ⅓ of the wall. The paint I chose for the top ⅓ was called Coastal Black. I was hoping it was a rick, dark black, but once it was on the wall, it pull majorly navy/blue.
It’s hard to tell in the picture because the room is SO dark, but the paint ended up being too blue for our liking and we went back to PPG Paints (which is amazingly right down the street) and had them mix us a true black for us.
They were SO helpful and kind and I can’t speak enough about their customer service.
If you are interested in seeing the whole processes as it unfolded, I saved the stories of the project in my highlights under HOME PROJECTS. You’ll be able to get a better visualization of just how blue the wall was.
BUT….after another day of painting, I finally got the black I was looking for and LOVE it. It’s so hard to showcase how beautiful the room actually is, because the room is so hard to photograph, but it’s stunning.
The black paint is so striking next to the white. And thanks to the PPG Paints Manor Hall, I only had to use one coat! Major win!
I ended up buying a new table and chairs for the room and now I just adore the space. I can walk by it without cringing!
It’s just amazing to me how a little paint can completely transform a room. So thank you PPG Paints for introducing me to your amazing paints and for helping me fall in love with the space in my home.
