Valentine’s Day Traditions with Target Dollar Spot!

When I was a child, my mom made a HUGE deal out of holidays. She decorated the house, left notes around the house for us children and made a special dinner for the family. The traditions left lasting memories that I have tried to carry on to my children. I thought I would share some of our family traditions for those who are looking for ways to celebrate Valentine’s Day with their loved ones. And the best part of all these traditions is that the supplies were purchased at Target…in The Dollar Spot (everything is $1 to $3)! Yay! Inexpensive Valentine’s Day Traditions are the best. Valentine’s Day Countdown

Come January 31st, I design and assemble a Valentine’s Day countdown for my children to open during the first 14 days of February. I switch the design up every year based on the materials I have around the house and usually fill the heart, envelope or boxes with little Valentine’s candies. My girls look forward to waking up every morning to their new treats and anxiously await the arrival of Valentine’s Day. This year, I decorated white and Kraft envelopes with a watercolor printable (that you can download BELOW), washi tape, and hung the envelopes with clothespins on a piece of twine.

Decorating for Valentine’s Day

Decorating for the holiday is a huge tradition at our house. At the end of January, we pull out the pink tupperware box and use the materials inside to spruce up our mantel, coffee table and front door. We cut out construction paper hearts to tape on the windows and make banners to hang on the walls. This year, I designed a watercolor banner that reads ‘love’ and watercolor hearts  that I backed with black card stock and hung those banners with twine.

Valentine’s Day Meal

Every Valentine’s Day, I make a special breakfast for my girls. I decorate the table with heart-themed paper products and fill them with red juice, heart pancakes (with sprinkles of course) and heart-shaped bacon. We talk about why we love and appreciate each other and discuss about how we can share love with people around us. It’s a fantastic tradition that we all really look forward to.

Love Notes

One of our most favorite traditions on Valentine’s Day is writing love notes to each other. I leave a stack of ‘love notes’ on the coffee table and encourage my girls and hubby to fill them out at their convenience. Once the notes are filled out, we leave those notes at random place around the house so the receiver can conveniently find them. It is such a special surprise to find an appreciation note on your pillow or mirror. It pretty much makes the whole holiday.
