We’ve kicked off our holiday festivities this year with a OREO Cookie Ball Decorating Party! We invited our most favorite friends over to help turn ordinary OREO Cookie Balls into adorable reindeer creatures. It was so enjoyable, this may become a yearly event!
Here are the details of the party:
DECORATIONS
For any party involving kids, I always use paper products. I used a Chinet white paper tablecloth and then 12X12 colored paper sheets for the placemats. This allows for easy clean-up and ensures there are no ‘ahh these kids are going to break…stain…ruin….my nice tablecloth….placemats….china.’ I also went with paper for the decor. I strung paper lanterns, fans and chains (from Oriental Trading) from the ceiling and placed honeycomb balls on the center of the table (with a few extra goodies…tinsel, a peppermint garland and some red tins from Ikea). Lastly I filled adorable bowls with candy to decorate the OREO cookie balls and scattered some candy canes on the table.
OREO COOKIE BALLS
The main activity of this party was decorating #OREOCookieBalls. They are crazy easy to make (hello three ingredients….I picked them up at WalMart) and are delicious….and addicting. Although, I will admit, they do take a few tries to get looking perfect. I still need a few more rounds of practice! Mine turned out a little blob-like. I’m determined to perfect them over the holiday break. Here is the OREO Cookie Ball Recipe:
SUPPLIES
- 1 pkg (8 oz.) brick cream cheese, softened
- 36 OREO Cookies, finely crushed (about 3 cups)
- 4 pkg. (4 oz. each) semi-sweet baking chocolate, melted
DIRECTIONS
- MIX cream cheese and cookie crumbs until blended.
- SHAPE into 48 (1-inch) balls. Freeze 10 min. Dip balls in melted chocolate; place in single layer in shallow waxed paper-lined pan.
- CUSTOMIZE it with your own ingredient additions or decorative skills.
- REFRIGERATE 1 hour or until firm.
DECORATING THE OREO COOKIE BALLS
Kids arrived to our party dressed in their holiday duds ready to decorate! They went to town turning my ordinary (somewhat blobby OREO cookie balls) into reindeer masterpieces! They used pretzels and candy canes for the antlers, googly eyes for yes, the eyes and red sixlets for the noses. I love how even though they all used the same props, each little reindeer turn out differently and had their own personality. And to wrap up the party….top it off with a glass of milk.
Love the decorations! Looks like the kids had a blast!
