As I mother of two girls (ages 5 and 8) I’ve been getting the question, “what do I get a girl for Christmas?” almost everyday. So to answer your questions, I thought I would put together a gift guide of the perfect gifts for girls.
Let’s get right to it, here is my What To Get A Girl guide.
So earlier this year, my daughter was admitted into the Gifted and Talented program. Yay! Proudest mom ever. Since coding is a HUGE part of the GT curriculum, we were asked to send our daughter with a tablet to school. Say what?!? The thought of giving a $200 + device to my daughter to carry around in her backpack made me want to throw up. Not that I don’t trust her, but seriously. She’s 8. So I’ve done my research and decided up the 7” Amazon Fire HD Kids Edition Tablet. Here are it’s major selling points:
- This puppy isn’t a toy – it’s a full-fledged tablet. The Kids Edition features a quad-core processor, a vivid HD display, front- and rear-facing cameras and Dolby Digital audio.
- It comes with a durable, lightweight kid-proof case AND comes with a 2-year worry-free guarantee. No need to worry about the backpack problem.
- The Fire HD Kids Edition includes a year of FreeTime Unlimited so kids get unlimited access to 5,000 books, movies, TV shows, educational apps, and games—at no additional cost.
- The price. The Fire HD Kids Edition is only $149 for a 6″ tablet and $189 for a 7″.
All the neighborhood kids have these babies and they are a total blast. They are a no-fuss toy (no batteries, gear or pedals) and nearly ANYONE can ride them (they hold up to 220 pounds)! They get going pretty fast down our street and I love listening to the girls giggle the whole way. It’s time they had there one. This is super high up on our Christmas list.

Are your kids over Frozen? Mine neither. They can’t get enough Frozen anything and everything. I figured it was time they owned their own Elsa Doll. You can find them just about EVERYWHERE, but I like this one from Amazon. I mean, with Prime it has free shipping.

Remember this game Barrel of Monkeys or Pick Up Sticks? Well Suspend is those two combined…on steroids. Created by the fabulous Melissa & Doug, this game looks like a total riot. It seems like one of those games that the parents enjoy as much as the kids. I love those! I can’t wait for this one to arrive.
You can check out and purchase Suspend HERE.
I’m going to be totally honest here. This gift is a total cop-out. My 8 year old daughter is OBSESSED with American Girls. She wants a doll desperately, but I just can’t bring myself to drop 100 plus dollars on just the doll….not to mention the small fortune on all the accessories. Especially when a line of dolls exists that are just as adorable. I purchased TWO Next Generation dolls at Target during their black Friday sale for only $30. That left me with plenty of extra cash for additional clothing and props. I say if you are cutting corners, the Next Generation brand is the way to go. I just hope my girls don’t know the difference!

We are HUGE Lego Friends fans over here. We love the shows almost as much as we love the lego sets. Almost. My daughters spend hours building and pretending with these kits and I love the creativity they inspire. This particular kit is one they have wanted for a long time. I can’t wait to add it to their little village/community of legos.

This book is for my oldest whose sense of humor is developing. She is learning the art of a pun and is constantly trying to crack us with knock, knock jokes. I can’t say much about this book myself, but it has good reviews and am excited to see what it contains.

A year or two ago my daughter received a Snap Circuits kits for her birthday and it’s been a HUGE hit ever since. We are ready to upgrade to the ‘Extreme’ version. This game is especially exciting for my husband who hopes it spawns future electrical engineers like himself. Here are just a few of this games selling points:
- Build over 750 experiments with 80 parts
- Parts included: photoresist or, power amplifier, variable capacitor, analog meter, solar cell, computer interface, full color manuals
- Experiments included: sound activated switch, lie detector, adjustable light controller, am radio, rechargeable battery and many more. Use your Windows PC and the included CI-73 Computer Interface manual converts your computer monitor into an oscilloscope and lets you see signals in process in the circuits you assemble
These goodies are for my five year old (although my 8 year old will love them). She experienced Magformers at a friends house and was glued to them for hours. They are another game/toy that promotes creativity so I therefore love them. I looks forward to playing them with her.
This present if for both my girls who love arts and crafts and are just starting to get into fashion. They headbands seem easy to assemble and mix and match. I can see my girls experimenting with this for hours.

Does this even need an explanation? There is no better book series for children from five to eight. I plan on reading this book as a family and can not wait!
You can check out or purchase The Chronicles of Narnia Boxset HERE.
And last but not least, My Little Ponies for my five year old. Not only do My Little Ponies bring back fond memories of my childhood, they entertain my baby for hours. She doesn’t joke around when we pull the Ponies out and can ‘make pretend’ like I have never seen before.
