Rodeo queen costumes by love the day for michaels makers

Another monthly challenge has arrived with the fabulous Michaels Makers program and I am ecstatic to show you what I have come up with. We were asked to create costumes with materials found at Michaels and given a few weeks to conquer the task. I enlisted EVERY possible craft skill I possess to make these Rodeo Queen costumes and  I could not be more proud of them.  My daughters have wanted to dress up like Rodeo Queens every since we attended the rodeo a few months ago (yes I live in Texas) and I loved the idea of getting to work with leather, glitter and rhinestones. Here is how I made the costume:

Rodeo Queen Costumes By Love The Day for Michaels Makers

CHAPS/SKIRT/VEST

The chaps, skirt and vest were made out of pleather I purchased at a fabric store. I physically laid my girls down on the yards of leather and traced the patterns around their little bodies and cut away, evening as I went along. I then then sewed two inches of white pleather around the patterns and cut to make the fringe. Using my Cricut Explore, I cut out stars and hot glued them to the vest and chaps. Using a piece of white chalk, I drew swirls on the chaps and hot-glued rhinestones I purchased at Michaels. I did the same to around the fringe on the vest and skirt.

HATS

The hats were purchased at Michaels. They are just foam and PERFECT for Halloween. I glued a leather stripe around the base of the hat and hot glued rhinestones to resemble a crown. For a little extra flair, I ran my hot glue gun around the brim and base of the hat and applied glitter while hot. I love the effect and wow-factor it gave the hats!

BELT BUCKLE

The belt buckles were a last minute addition, but I’m SO, SO glad I went for it. They are made out of those wood plaques you find at Michaels in the wood work section. I sprayed the piece of wood with adhesive glue and glittered the tar out of that sucker (my house is a glitter bomb). I them stapled gunned the plaque to leather strips and tied around my girls’ waists for belts. I’m so crazy obsessed with how huge and shiny they are. Almost to the point of ridiculousness, but cute enough to pull off! I love them.

  • Happy Saturday!! What are you crafting this weekend?! I’ve been making a million of these heart flags/stands from the designs available in my Rainbow Bundle. I’m obsessed with them. Wouldn’t they be perfect for a rainbow-themed birthday party or baby shower?! And yes!! Your Cricut Maker can cut wood! #LTDcrafts #cricutmade #cricutcreations #svgcuttingfiles #craftersofinstagram
  • This is a HOPE post for a smaller population that I don’t talk much about here on Instagram. This post is for the immunocompromised community and for families who have had to be SUPER careful this last year because they’ve been keeping themselves or their high risk loved ones safe from COVID. It’s for those who know how extremely difficult medical and health challenges are and how scary this virus has been for us.

Personally, we’ve been working to keep Ry, my husband, alive for the last ten years and to say we were terrified of him getting COVID is an understatement. It’s been a long, lonely year at home, but oh so worth it.

But less about that and more about HOPE! Ry and I were able to receive the vaccine under the B1 category of the Texas vaccination roll-out and today I went out to lunch with my best friend! It was my first time in a restaurant in almost a year and it felt glorious. And just to sit and chat with her made me nearly explode with joy. I mean I love Marco Polo as much as the next person, but to sit across from her was heavenly.

Hope is here for the immunocompromised community and our family is so, so grateful to the medical and science community for all their tireless work this last year. Thank you, thank you, thank you! And to those of you who are compromised waiting for a vaccine….keep trying!! We spent hours and hours putting ourselves on waiting lists. They are getting easier to find and receive! #covidvacccine #vaccine #hashimotosdisease #hopeforthefuture #craftersofinstagram
  • Do you have someone in your life who is pure magic? I sure do! @leads_by_mandi_jackson is pretty magical and makes my life so much better. Because it’s been one heck of a year, I think we all should express love to our magic family and friends. Life is short and goodness, the world needs it. ⁣
⁣
If you have someone in your life that is magic, I want to hear all about them!! Tag them here and tell me why they are so great. Both of you will have a chance to win my Rainbow Bundle (that includes these printable tags). #LTDprintables #svgcuttingfiles #cricutcreations #craftersofinstagram #craftinessishappiness

  • Let the madness begin!! It’s that time again! If you follow or are into college basketball, you absolutely need this March Madness oversized bracket. It’s so easy to print (I get ours printed at UPS) and hang on the wall (hello @command strips) during the tournament. I love seeing pictures of people who put it up in their work offices, garages and homes and seeing how much fun they have filling it out! You can find the link to the file in my bio. #marchmadness #basketballislife #collegebasketball #ncaabasketball #printables
  • Continuing on with all things rainbow!! Today I
  • What a week! We are starting to thaw out here in Texas, but it’s been a doozy. Despite the catastrophic damage, inconveniences and lack of supplies on shelves, it’s been amazing to see people come together and help one another. There really is something to the Texas spirt that inspires people to think of others over self. ⁣
⁣
That being said, we’re ready for warmer weather! Bring on the sun and ALL the rainbows! ⁣
⁣
My rainbow SVG & Printable Bundle is LIVE and today I’m sharing how to create a Rainbow Cake Topper three different ways. You can make this topper with or without a Cricut Machine out of felt, paper or a printable! • It might be 2 degrees here in Texas (what is even happening 🥶🥶?!), but all I’m seeing is rainbows! My latest bundle is live and in my shop. I’m pretty obsessed with it because C….O…..L….O…..R!!!! ⁣
⁣
I can’t wait to show you how to turn the bundle files into: cake toppers, garlands, heart skewers stands, Cricut print & cut gift tags and vinyl signs! ⁣
⁣
The options with these files are endless! I can’t wait to see what you do with them. Head to my blog to learn more about the bundle. #svgcuttingfiles #svgfilesforcricut #rainbowtheme #printables #diyideas #makeitwithmichaels #cricutmade
  • It’s hard to believe, but our very last Valentine’s Box is finished! This is a yearly task that most parents loathe, but for some reason we absolutely adore it. We love taking something our daughters are really into and turning it into a physical box. ⁣
⁣
We love the excuse to spend the weekend together, brainstorming construction and giggling away as we create the box. This year, my Star Wars-obsessed daughter knew EXACTLY what she wanted. This is the helmet of Bo-Katan, her favorite character in The Mandalorian. We are all about #girlpower over here so we jumped on it and went to work. We used papier-mâché for the first time and can’t stop laughing that the helmet box is as big is she is.⁣
⁣
It was the perfect box and memory to end this fabulous tradition. I’m not quite ready, but farewell Valentine’s Box days. Middle school Valentine-angst here we come. #bokatan #themandalorian #starwarsart #diyideas #valentinesdaybox #usetheforce
