It’s time for another Michael Maker’s Challenge! Did you know that Michaels has named denim the craft trend of 2015? Denim is a staple for your closet, but now you can find denim ribbon, paint, pockets and even tape to fill your craft room. To spur this trend, the Michaels Maker’s were asked to use these fun new materials to create Denim Crafts.
My creative process (of course) automatically turned to a party. Denim is a fantastic medium and all these new denim craft supplies can really bring your party to the next level. They have fabulous texture, are a great color and fit with so many different party themes: Western, Back To School, Camping, Farm Yard, Nautical, Strawberry, 4th of July….the list goes on and on.
I decided to recreate a Country Fair-themed party using wood crates, kraft paper, glass milk jars, a tin vase full of fresh flowers and cupcakes of course!
Here’s a breakdown of the pieces I created for the party:
Denim Garland: I purchased a pack of denim fat quarters at Michaels. I took the fat quarters, folded each piece over a string of twine and hot glued. I used the denim clothes pin as an accent.
Cupcake Toppers: I used my Circut Explore to cut Kraft paper into two inch circles. I then glued hand-stitched felt hearts to the Kraft paper circles and wrote hello in cursive. I glued the circles to a paper straw and tied a piece of denim ribbon around it.
Milk Jars: I wrapped the milk jars in red burlap, denim fabric and twine and adhered using double-sided tape.
Denim Favor Bags: I took a pack of denim fat quarters and cut them into hearts. I glued those hearts onto burlap bags (purchased at Michaels).
